When you read this, the first term at school will have finished and the second term would have started! The children have been incredibly busy with trips, visitors and a camp out on the school field in order to bring the curriculum
alive and enable them to apply their learnt skills.
Barn Owls (Reception children) have been finding out about the world around them and were so inspired by a visit from a nurse from a local vets who brought with her two four week old kittens, that they transformed their role play area into a vet’s surgery complete with waiting area, examination room and stables!
Robins (Year 1 and 2) have been finding out about light, colour and electricity and had to put their skills to the test to create a range of light sources for the ‘King of Sparkle’!
Kestrels (Year 3) have been inspired by robotics, as well as investigating different electrical circuits. They have also built their own robots powered by pneumatics.
Red Kites and Falcons (Years 4-6) have put their forest skills to the test by creating a range of shelters, which included planning their own camp out event. The children had a fantastic evening cooking over a campfire, singing and tidying up the campsite the following morning!
Now the children have all started new topics with ‘Robins’ looking at the Great Fire of London and the Gunpowder Plot, ‘Kestrels’ exploring the Victorian times and the oldest children researching the Second World War in their ‘Blitz’ Project.
The children would be delighted to find out information from someone who experienced the war, so if you feel that you could help, please give the school a call.
As this term moves on, Christmas will be rapidly approaching, so I do hope that you are getting creative with the ‘Nativity Scene Challenge’ that I set you last month, in October! Remember you need to create a nativity scene from any material you like that must fit into a shoebox. Entries need to be brought to school by Friday 25th November.
Dates for your diary:
Friday 25th November: Last date for Nativity entries
Saturday 26th November: Christmas Bazaar 11.00am-2.00pm
(Raffle tickets will be on sale as of 31 October 2011!)
Tuesday 29th November: Family Bingo – Eyes down 6.30pm (All Welcome)
